End-of-year academic awards, from criteria to ceremony
- Free for any school
- Principal’s own criteria
- Print the whole list
- Optional honor roll
- Names only
Most schools give their academic awards at a spring assembly or graduation. Here is a simple plan for the term, and a free tool that prints every certificate from one list, each with a code anyone can check.
A plan for the term
- 1
February: agree the criteria
One plain sentence per award, such as “an A in every core subject in all four quarters” for Excellence and “the greatest growth in reading this year” for Achievement. It is printed on every certificate.
- 2
March and April: nominations
Teachers suggest students; the principal decides. Keep the list in a spreadsheet with three columns: name, award, grade.
- 3
May: print
Paste the list into the form above and print every certificate at once, one page each, with its own QR code. Save the verify links as a spreadsheet for the office.
- 4
May and June: the ceremony, then the honor roll
Hand out the certificates. If families agree, show the honor roll on your website or a lobby screen, by first name and last initial only.
How the free academic awards work
Built on the same engine our volunteer awards already use. Free for every school, with no account.
- 1
Paste your list of students
Names from your spreadsheet, each with Excellence or Achievement and a grade. Nothing else: no grades, scores, birth dates or emails.
- 2
Your principal issues them
Write the school’s criteria in one line, such as “GPA of 3.5 or higher, or a teacher’s recommendation”. The principal confirms the students met them, and that line goes on every certificate.
- 3
Print them all for the ceremony
One click prints every certificate, each with a QR code and a code that opens its verify page. Show an honor roll if you want one: first names and last initials only, hidden from search engines.

What Laurelroll keeps about students
- Names only, with the award, grade and school year. Never grades, scores, birth dates, student IDs or emails.
- No public list by default. Each award has a verify page reached only by its code. An honor roll is off unless the school turns it on, and then shows first names and last initials and asks search engines not to index it.
- Directory information. Before listing students publicly, the school confirms no family opted out of directory information. This is a summary, not legal advice; follow your district’s policy.
- The school decides. The principal chooses the students and states the criteria. Laurelroll never computes who qualifies.
Questions
When should we start?
Agree on the criteria in February, collect teachers’ nominations in March and April, and print in May. Ceremonies are usually in May or June.
Who signs the awards?
The principal, whose name and role go on every certificate. The principal confirms that each student met the school’s criteria.
Do we have to publish an honor roll?
No. It is off unless you turn it on for a list. If you do, it shows first names and last initials only, asks search engines not to index it, and should include only students whose families have not opted out of directory information.
Can we fix a mistake after printing?
Yes. Withdraw the wrong award from your private page, and its verify page will say it was withdrawn. Then issue the right one.
